10 Facts About Acne | New Health and Fitness

New Health And Fitness.Org - Health Information You Can Use

First, acne affects almost 90% of the adolescent population. So, you are not alone. Also, it is not normally anything you have done, eaten or the way you wash. So, you do not need to feel guilty. Let?s look at some facts about acne and get to the truth.

1. Junk food triggers acne. Wrong! Pizza, chocolate, coke or some other junk food has never been proven to cause this. That does not mean to say you should keep on eating all this junk food. A sensible diet is great for everyone, and helps you feel better.

2. Acne is a result of dirt. Wrong! In fact washing your face more than twice daily or scrubbing your face, with pads or flannels can make it worse. Acne cure needs mild gentle soap and to wash thoroughly.

3. Sweat can clear my pores. Wrong! A combination of body sweat and oils can aggravate certain situations for some acne sufferers. Shower soon after any sport and wear loose clothing.

4. Women?s makeup can cause acne. Wrong! No scientific evidence has been found to verify this. Most products today are mad to stop the clogging of the pores. So this is not the problem. Do not wear make-up though when exercising as this can irritate the problem.

5. Stress brings about acne. Wrong! To an extent. Stress can trigger off some hormones, which could aggravate the situation. Yet it isn?t the main cause.

6. You cannot cure acne. True! However you can treat it! There are a lot of good acne treatments on the market. See your doctor.

7. Sun can help. Wrong! It can in time worsen the situation in time. A tan might give the effect that your skin looks better, but it certainly will do it no good.

8. Spot acne treatments work. Wrong! The entire face needs to be dealt with. Most the troubles are made under the skin. Treating the top spot is not going to do anything.

9. You will outgrow it. Wrong! Acne is treatable. Don?t wait. See a doctor ASAP.

10. It?s merely cosmetic. True! It?s not serious. However it can affect you, your self-esteem, as well as your confidence. Consider getting it treated and become acne free.

Just a few words of advice:

Don?t pick or squeeze
Keep your hands off your face
Find something and stick with it
Don?t over wash
Do not use flannels or hard scrubs

EPA Deems Fracking Safe as States Debate New Drilling Laws (ContributorNetwork)

[unable to retrieve full-text content]ContributorNetwork - Environmental Protection Agency Administrator Lisa Jackson sees "only an upside to hydraulic fracturing," according to the New York Post. Jackson spoke at an energy conference in New Jersey last week to discuss fracking and to address environmental concerns over the controversial process of unearthing natural gas deposits from shale. The Post reports President Barack Obama also believes fracking will lead to job creation and does not mean America will have to choose between protecting our environment and bolstering the economy.

You Can Sell Your Commercial Property Regardless Of The ...

Commercial real estate can be a lucrative industry for those with the proper experience and knowledge. Some of the world?s wealthiest people have made their fortunes in this exciting field. This article provides some of the most important advice and tips for anyone interested in the commercial real estate field.

A good property broker can be worth his or her weight in gold when it comes to securing the right property. Not only will they advise you on the most appropriate property for your needs, they should also be able to put you in touch with the myriad local services you will require to keep your newly-acquired property in tip-top shape, such as professional cleaners , carpet cleaners, window cleanersand other services such as plumbers and electricians

If you have the money to invest in commercial real estate, you should have the money to consult an attorney. If something goes awry, will you be personally responsible financially? Or can you and an attorney create a legal layer of protection separating your business deals from your personal assets. Let a good attorney advise you every step of the way.

Make sure you understand the zoning of a particular property when buying commercial real estate. If you buy a property with the intention of building a commercial business on it, check with the city to see what they require as far as zoning with new construction. They might have specific building guidelines which may add significant cost to the construction.

If you are new in the real estate game it may be tempting to try to buy many different types of properties. while they may sound like a great idea, that is usually not the best thing to do because you would do better mastering one type of property instead of having multiple types that are just average.

Get to know some other investors so that, if you see a really good investment property that is out of your price range, you will have some prospective partners to turn to. You could get together with another investor or a group of investors and buy a property that you could never consider investing in on your own.

Investing in any field requires patience and know how. Always do your homework when buying real estate so that you get the best deal possible. While nothing is for certain, you can gain an edge by following the advice that you have just read. Hopefully these tips will help you to achieve your commercial real estate goals.

Lumigon T2 hands-on at MWC 2012 (video)

We've been waiting for Lumigon to get around to launching its Android opus for a while now. Fortunately, MWC is precisely the right kind of place for a new company to catch the eye of the mobile press. With Ice Cream Sandwich and Bang and Olufsen involvement, we had to take a look at the Lumigon T2 for ourselves. First impressions are after the break, with a video run-through of the stainless-steel lined phone thrown in for good measure.

Obama: No easy answers to lowering pump prices

(AP) ? President Barack Obama says there is no easy answer to the problem of rising energy prices and he's dismissing Republican solutions as little more than gimmicks.

"We know there's no silver bullet that will bring down gas prices or reduce our dependence on foreign oil overnight," Obama said Saturday in his weekly radio and Internet address. "But what we can do is get our priorities straight and make a sustained, serious effort to tackle this problem."

Oil prices are approaching last year's highs as tensions increase over Iran's nuclear program. The rise pushed gasoline prices Friday to a national average of $3.65 a gallon, the highest ever for this time of year. A spike in gas prices is normal in spring, but it came earlier than usual this year in large part because of world fears that the growing confrontation with Iran will crimp oil supplies. Iran is the world's third-largest crude supplier.

Rising oil prices weigh on the economy, pushing leisure and business travel costs higher. Every 1-cent increase in the price of gasoline costs the economy $1.4 billon, analysts say.

Obama said Republicans have one answer to the oil pinch: drill.

"You know that's not a plan, especially since we're already drilling," Obama said, echoing his remarks earlier in the week. "It's a bumper sticker."

Obama is pushing what he calls an "all-of-the-above" approach to the problem of limited energy resources, meaning an attempt to seek out alternative energy sources while reducing consumption of traditional fuels.

In the Republican address, Texas Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison blamed the rise in gasoline prices partly on the Obama administration, which she said has blocked some potential new sources of oil and gas.

"We can't slow down global demand for oil and gas, but we can do a lot more here at home to assure that we have the energy we need and to halt skyrocketing costs," she said. "President Obama's policy has resulted in an unprecedented slowdown in new exploration and production of oil and gas."

For all the political claims, economists say there's not much a president of either party can do about gasoline prices. Certainly not in the short term. But it's clear that people are concerned ? a new Associated Press-GfK poll says 7 in 10 Americans find the issue deeply important ? so it's sure to be a political issue through the summer.

The price of gasoline, which is made from crude oil, has soared with oil prices. The national average jumped by nearly 12 cents per gallon in a week, with state averages above $4 per gallon in California, Alaska and Hawaii.

At $3.65 per gallon, gasoline is still below last year's high of $3.98 and the record $4.11 set in 2008.

Increase Sales By Altering The Title Description in your Business ...

Something insidious has happened throughout the final ten to fifteen years inside the best position associated with a within the business world. Sales professionals have co-elected their roles by adopting game titles for example:

Business Development Strategist

Project Development Consultant

Customer Relations Specialist

Business Development Consultant

Closing Transaction Specialist

Regional Accountant Specialist

Marketing Consultant

Rarely would you browse the following title inside a business card:

Sales rep
Sales Executive
Sales Specialist
Sales Consultant
Sales Representative

And just how frequently would you browse the following:

Professional Sales rep?

What goes on when something isn?t clearly defined? The outcomes are often muddied and require much more assets to attain.

What exactly may be the trouble with being known as a sales rep or getting the term sales within the job or title description? In my opinion that lots of in sales truly don?t want to stay in sales by altering their title they are able to change the things they?re doing and concentrate on other facets of business building. Then ultimately that sales answers are marginal at best.

These reasonably intelligent people do not realize that business building is all about bringing in new clients (making sales) and developing loyal clients (making sales). For without sales, a business won?t be a business. Sales Training Tip: Sales would be the goal!

Imagine as it were a baseball team and everybody is known as football gamers. What can happen? The main reason baseball gamers are known as baseball gamers is because have fun with a baseball. Kind individuals in sales who make sales be known as anything apart from a sales person.

Until people including small business proprietors to C Level professionals realize that striking a moving target (undefined target) is extremely difficult, the aim to improve sales continues to allude many of these organizations. And furthermore frightening because of the possible lack of competent sales professionals, many small business proprietors to C Level professionals allow these game titles for example business development specialist to carry on to proliferate the business world. Sales Training Tip: Sales managers have your sales people known as sales reps, sales specialists or sales professionals. This can improve their focus.

Finding yourself in sales is the greatest profession on the planet. Should you don?t want to stay in sales, then escape and discover employment that actually works with what you would like from existence.

Does the GOP want $5 gas? (The Week)

[unable to retrieve full-text content]The Week - As rising gas prices sour the national mood, Obama accuses Republicans of hoping for more bad economic news so they can use it against him in NovemberThere are no "quick fixes" for rising gasoline prices, President Obama said Thursday, trying to get in front of an issue that threatens to compromise his re-election campaign. Republicans are blaming Obama for the uptick — which could reach $5 per gallon by summer's driving season, according to some analysts — saying he has denied oil companies the chance to drill for more domestic oil. In turn, Obama faulted Republicans for "licking their chops" over rising gas prices, "rooting for bad news" so they can exploit voters' fuel frustrations for political gain. Does Obama have a point?

Peak energy & resources, climate change, and the ... - Peak Oil News

Peak energy & resources, climate change, and the preservation of knowledge thumbnail

Since there?s nothing that can be done about climate change, because there?s no scalable alternative to fossil fuels, I?ve always wondered why politicians and other leaders, who clearly know better, feel compelled to deny it. I think it?s for exactly the same reasons you don?t hear them talking about preparing for Peak Oil.

1) Our leaders have known since the 1970s energy crises that there?s no comparable alternative energy ready to replace fossil fuels. To extend the oil age as long as possible, the USA went the military path rather than a ?Manhattan Project? of research and building up grid infrastructure, railroads, sustainable agriculture, increasing home and car fuel efficiency, and other obvious actions.

Instead, we?ve spent trillions of dollars on defense and the military to keep the oil flowing, the Straits of Hormuz open, and invade oil-producing countries. Being so much further than Europe, China, and Russia from the Middle East, where there?s not only the most remaining oil, but the easiest oil to get out at the lowest cost ($20-22 OPEC vs $60-80 rest-of-world per barrel), is a huge disadvantage. I think the military route was chosen in the 70s to maintain our access to Middle East oil and prevent challenges from other nations. Plus everyone benefits by our policing the world and keeping the lid on a world war over energy resources, perhaps that?s why central banks keep lending us money.

2) If the public were convinced climate change were real and demanded alternative energy, it would become clear pretty quickly that we didn?t have any alternatives. Already Californians are seeing public television shows and newspaper articles about why it?s so difficult to build enough wind, solar, and so on to meet the mandated 33% renewable energy sources by 2020.

For example, last night I saw a PBS program on the obstacles to wind power in Marin county, on the other side of the Golden Gate bridge. Difficulties cited were lack of storage for electricity, NIMBYism, opposition from the Audubon society over bird kills, wind blows at night when least needed, the grid needs expansion, and most wind is not near enough to the grid to be connected to it. But there was no mention of Energy Returned on Energy Invested (EROEI) or the scale of how many windmills you?d need to have. So you could be left with the impression that these problems with wind could be overcome.

I don?t see any signs of the general public losing optimism yet. I gave my ?Peak Soil? talk to a critical thinking group, very bright people, sparkling, interesting, well-read, thoughtful, and to my great surprise realized they weren?t worried until my talk, partly because so few people understand the Hirsch 2005 ?liquid fuels? crisis concept, nor the scale of what fossil fuels do for us. I felt really bad, I?ve never spoken to a group before that wasn?t aware of the problem, I wished I were a counselor as well. The only thing I could think of to console them was to say that running out of fossil fuels was a good thing ? we might not be driven extinct by global warming, which most past mass extinctions were caused by.

3) As the German military peak oil study stated, when investors realize Peak Oil is upon us, stock markets world-wide will crash (if they haven?t already from financial corruption), as it will be obvious that growth is no longer possible and investors will never get their money back.

4) As Richard Heinberg has pointed out, there?s a national survival interest in being the ?Last Man (nation) Standing?. So leaders want to keep things going smoothly as long as possible. And everyone is hoping the crash is ?not on my watch? ? who wants to take the blame?

5) It would be political suicide to bring up the real problem of Peak Oil and have no solution to offer besides consuming less. Endless Growth is the platform of both the Republican and Democratic parties. More Consumption and ?Drill, Baby, Drill? is the main plan to get out of the current economic and energy crises.

There?s also the risk of creating a panic and social disorder if the situation were made utterly clear ? that the carrying capacity of the United States is somewhere between 100 million (Pimentel) and 250 million (Smil) without fossil fuels, like the Onion?s parody ?Scientists: One-Third Of The Human Race Has To Die For Civilization To Be Sustainable, So How Do We Want To Do This??

There?s no solution to peak oil, except to consume less in all areas of life, which is not acceptable to political leaders or corporations, who depend on growth for their survival. Meanwhile, too many problems are getting out of hand on a daily basis at local, state, and national levels. All that matters to politicians is the next election. So who?s going to work on a future problem with no solution? Jimmy Carter is perceived as having lost partly due to asking Americans to sacrifice for the future (i.e. put on a sweater).

I first became aware of this at the 2005 ASPO Denver conference. Denver Mayor Hickenlooper pointed out that one of his predecessors lost the mayoral election because he didn?t keep the snow plows running after a heavy snow storm. He worried about how he?d keep snow plows, garbage collection, and a host of other city services running as energy declined.

A Boulder city council member at this conference told us he had hundreds of issues and constituents to deal with on a daily basis, no way did he have time to spend on an issue beyond the next election.

Finally, Congressman Roscoe Bartlett told us that there was no solution, and he was angry that we?d blown 25 years even though the government knew peak was coming. His plan was to relentlessly reduce our energy demand by 5% per year, to stay under the depletion rate of declining oil. But not efficiency ? that doesn?t work due to Jevons paradox.

The only solution that would mitigate suffering is to mandate that women bear only one child. Fat chance of that ever happening when even birth control is controversial, and Catholics are outraged that all health care plans are now required to cover the cost of birth control pills. Congressman Bartlett, in a small group discussion after his talk, told us that population was the main problem, but that he and other politicians didn?t dare mention it. He said that exponential growth would undo any reduction in demand we could make, and gave this example: if we have 250 years left of reserves in coal, and we turn to coal to replace oil, increasing our use by 2% a year ? a very modest rate of growth considering what a huge amount is needed to replace oil ? then the reserve would only last 85 years. If we liquefy it, then it would only last 50 years, because it takes a lot of energy to do that.

Bartlett was speaking about 250 years of coal reserves back in 2005. Now we know that the global energy from coal may have peaked last year, in 2011 (Patzek) or will soon in 2015 (Zittel). Other estimates range as far as 2029 to 2043. Heinberg and Fridley say that ?we believe that it is unlikely that world energy supplies can continue to meet projected demand beyond 2020.? (Heinberg).

6) Political (and religious) leaders gain votes, wealth, and power by telling people what they want to hear. Several politicians have told me privately that people like to hear good news and that politicians who bring bad news don?t get re-elected. ?Don?t worry, be happy? is a vote getter. Carrying capacity, exponential growth, die-off, extinction, population control ? these are not ideas that get leaders elected.

7) Everyone who understands the situation is hoping The Scientists Will Come up With Something. Including the scientists. They?d like to win a Nobel prize and need funding. But researchers in energy resources know what?s at stake with climate change and peak oil and are as scared as the rest of us. U.C.Berkeley scientists are also aware of the negative environmental impacts of biofuels, and have chosen to concentrate on a politically feasible strategy of emphasizing lack of water to prevent large programs in this from being funded (Fingerman). They?re also working hard to prevent coal fired power plants from supplying electricity to California by recommending natural gas replacement plants instead, as well as expanding the grid, taxing carbon, energy efficiency, nuclear power, geothermal, wind, and so on ? see http://rael.berkeley.edu/projects for what else some of UCB?s RAEL program is up to. Until a miracle happens, scientists and some enlightened policy makers are trying to extend the age of oil, reduce greenhouse gases, and so on. But with the downside of Hubbert?s curve so close, and the financial system liable to crash again soon given the debt and lack of reforms, I don?t know how long anyone can stretch things out.

8) The 1% can?t justify their wealth or the current economic system once the pie stops expanding and starts to shrink. The financial crisis will be a handy way to explain why people are getting poorer on the down side of peak oil too, delaying panic perhaps.

Other evidence that politicians know how serious the situation is, but aren?t saying anything, are Congressman Roscoe Bartlett?s youtube videos (Urban Danger). He?s the Chairman of the peak oil caucus in the House of Representatives, and he?s saying ?get out of dodge? to those in the know. He?s educated all of the representatives in the House, but he says that peak oil ?won?t be on their front burner until there?s an oil shock?.

9) Less than one percent of our elected leaders have degrees in science. They?re so busy raising money for the next election and their political duties, that even they may not have time to read enough for a ?big picture view? of (systems) ecology, population, environment, natural resources, biodiversity / bioinvasion, water, topsoil and fishery depletion, and all the other factors that will be magnified when oil, the master resource that?s been helping us cope with these and many other problems, declines.

10) Since peak fossil fuel is here, now (we?re on a plateau), there?s less urgency to do something about climate change for many leaders, because they assume, or hope, that the remaining fossil fuels won?t trigger a runaway greenhouse. Climate change is a more distant problem than Peak Oil. And again, like peak oil, nothing can be done about it. There?s are no carbon free alternative liquid fuels, let alone a liquid fuel we can burn in our existing combustion engines, which were designed to only use gasoline. There?s no time left to rebuild a completely new fleet of vehicles based on electricity, the electric grid infrastructure and electricity generation from windmills, solar, nuclear, etc., are too oil dependent to outlast oil. Batteries are too heavy to ever be used by trucks or other large vehicles, and require a revolutionary breakthrough to power electric cars.

11) I think that those who deny climate change, despite knowing it is real, are thinking like chess players several moves ahead. They hope that by denying climate change an awareness of peak oil is less likely to occur, and I?m guessing their motivation is to keep our oil-based nation going as long as possible by preventing a stock market crash, panic, social disorder, and so on.

12) Politicians and corporate leaders probably didn?t get as far as they did without being (techno) optimists, and perhaps really believe the Scientists Will Come Up With Something. I fear that scientists are going to take a lot of the blame as things head South, even though there?s nothing they can do to change the laws of physics and thermodynamics.

Conclusion

We need government plans or strategies at all levels to let the air out of the tires of civilization as slowly as possible to prevent panic and sudden discontinuities.

Given history, I can?t imagine the 1% giving up their wealth (especially land, 85% of which is concentrated among 3% of owners). I?m sure they?re hoping the current system maintains its legitimacy as long as possible, even as the vast majority of us sink into 3rd world poverty beyond what we can imagine, and then are too poor and hungry to do anything but find our next meal.

Until there are oil shocks and governments at all levels are forced to ?do something?, it?s up to those of us aware of what?s going on to gain skills that will be useful in the future, work to build community locally, and live more simply. Towns or regions that already have or know how to implement a local currency fast will be able to cope better with discontinuities in oil supplies and financial crashes than areas that don?t.

The best possible solution is de-industrialization, starting with Heinberg?s 50 million farmers, while also limiting immigration, instituting high taxes and other disincentives to encourage people to not have more than one child so we can get under the maximum carrying capacity as soon as possible.

Hirsch recommended preparing for peak 20 years ahead of time, and we didn?t do that. So many of the essential preparations need to be at a local, state, and federal level, they can?t be done at an individual level. Denial and inaction now are likely to lead to millions of unnecessary deaths in the future. Actions such as upgrading infrastructure essential to life, like water delivery and treatment systems (up to 100 years old in much of America and rusting apart), sewage treatment, bridges, and so on. After peak, oil will be scarce and devoted to growing and delivering food, with the remaining energy trickling down to other essential services ? probably not enough to build new infrastructure, or even maintain what we have.

I wish it were possible for scientists and other leaders to explain what?s going on to the public, but I think scientists know it wouldn?t do any good given American?s low scientific literacy, and leaders see the vast majority of the public as big blubbering spoiled babies, like the spaceship characters on floating chairs in Wall-E, who expect, no demand, happy Hollywood endings.

Limp Bizkit Signed To YMCMB

'The game is missing danger, electricity, and rock n roll!!!! Cash Money Limp Bizkit,' Fred Durst Tweeted.
By Gil Kaufman

Lil Wayne has made no secret of his affinity for rock and roll. The Cash Money MC loves strapping on a guitar and though his detour into rock on the 2010 album Rebirth didn't click with fans as much as his hip-hop efforts, Weezy wasn't shy about cranking up the amps and paying homage to the rap-rock fusion sound of the 1990s.

So it kind of makes sense that he announced on Thursday that one of the icons of 90s nu-metal, Limp Bizkit, would be joining the YMCMB roster.

In an interview with New York's 98.7 KissFM station DJ Lenny Green,Wayne said, "we're always listening and looking at acts. Every other day I hear about somebody new just signed to Cash Money ... The other day I found out Limp Bizkit signed to Cash Money. They're singing everybody."

Wayne also said that the label could be working with former Murder Inc. princess Ashanti, but it was the news that Bizkit would join the likes of Nicki Minaj and Drake that raised the most eyebrows. Though they had a run at the top of the charts in the late 1990s with hits like a metalized rap cover of George Michael's "Faith" and "Nookie," by the early 2000's Bizkit began to lose steam. In 2001, colorful guitarist Wes Borland split as the band fell into a creative and commercial funk.

Borland returned for a brief period in 2004, but the critic's punching bag group could not outrun their past and went on hiatus until 2009, releasing their first album of new material in 6 years in 2011, the tepidly received major-label swan song, Gold Cobra. With the signing, LB become the first rock band to join a roster packed with R&B and rap acts that includes Tyga, Mack Maine, Busta Rhymes and Jay Sean.

Bizkit singer Fred Durst
confirmed the Cash Money news early Friday morning in a series of Tweets (https://twitter.com/#!/freddurst), including one in which he wrote, "The game is missing danger, electricity, and rock n roll!!!! Cash Money Limp Bizkit." He later added, "rock s--- doesn't rock anymore! They say the whole game done went pop so I'm back in this ho! #CMLB."

Are you surprised by the news that Limp Bizkit is joining the YMCMB roster? Let us know what you think below.

Microsoft files EU antitrust complaint against Motorola Mobility, claims unfair licensing practices

Early last week, the European Commission gave Google its blessing regarding the purchase of Motorola Mobility. But the honeymoon has been anything but relaxing for the search giant and its latest power-play acquisition, after Apple filed an antitrust complaint, claiming a breach of the company's FRAND obligations. Now Microsoft is waiving the antitrust flag as well, claiming that the company is reportedly abusing its standard-essential patents, impeding fair access to patents that are fundamental to regular device function -- this time dealing with video streaming and wireless connectivity. Microsoft Deputy General Counsel Dave Heiner has posted an appeal to the company's TechNet blog, outlining the issue and explaining that "Motorola is attempting to block sales of Windows PCs, our Xbox game console and other products," further claiming that "Motorola is on a path to use standard essential patents to kill video on the Web, and Google as its new owner doesn't seem to be willing to change course." The key issue at hand is patent pricing -- Microsoft claims that Motorola is demanding an impossibly high royalty of $22.50 for a $1,000 laptop, and that only covers fees for H.264 licensing. It's no secret that Motorola's patent portfolio was a key component of Google's acquisition, and so far it doesn't appear that the company is making any suggestion that Motorola ease up on licensing fees. As always, we'll be keeping an eye on the process, but hit up the source link below for the full scoop from MS.

Hacked arms and legs display the despair of Somalia

As world leaders meet to discuss Somalia, there is evidence of a growing threat to the U.K. from the war torn country's militant group al-Shabab. NBC's  Rohit Kachroo reports.?

By Rohit Kachroo , NBC News correspondent

NAIROBI, Kenya ? Staring directly at me with glazed eyes were two young men whose anguish says so much about the pure evil of al-Shabab, the Somali Islamic militant group.

The pair had escaped from Mogadishu, the Somali capital. One of them was a 19-year-old who, as a boy, was accused of stealing a piece of bread. He lifted the dangling sleeve of his shirt to reveal the punishment dealt out by his accusers, a group of al-Shabab fighters: His hand had been cut off. Not only that, but one foot had been cut away, too.

Sitting next to him was a baby-faced 21-year-old. He was a lowly laborer who was accused of being a senior government spy. He was told that he had ?spoken too much,? so a militant henchman sliced away part of his tongue. Today he struggles to speak. To shield another wound, on his neck, he wears a dirty bandage which hasn?t been changed for the past week because his family cannot afford medical treatment. Without such help, his father told me, he is unlikely to live for more than two months. (The names of the two men are being withheld to prevent reprisals against them.)

Sadly, these types of atrocities are typical of al-Shabab. It is the reality faced by those unlucky enough to live in the lawless areas of
Somalia that they control. Somalia has been without a functioning central government since 1991.

Worryingly, the Somali insurgents formally merged with al-Qaida this month.

World leaders pledge help
On Thursday, international leaders, including the U.K.?s Prime Minister David Cameron, U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon, met in London to try to address the multiple problems faced by Somalia, arguably the planet?s most anarchic state.

A local attempt at a reproduction of the British flag is pictured flying in the southern area of Mogadishu on Thursday. Hundreds of police and security personnel were deployed in Mogadishu's streets ahead of a high level London conference on Somalia's security situation.

"For two decades Somalia has been torn apart by famine, bloodshed and some of the worst poverty on earth," Cameron said at the conference. "If the rest of us just sit back and look on, we will pay a price for doing so," he added.

Cameron warned that Somalia's al-Qaida linked militant group al-Shabab could export terrorism to Europe and the United States, with dozens of British and American citizens traveling to Somalia to train and fight with the Islamists.

Piracy, kidnappings, extremism, foreign infiltration and hunger. It is difficult to know where to start. Which of these many problems should take priority?

Biggest threat? Foreign fighters
I asked the Mayor of Mogadishu, Mohamed Ahmed Noor, a popular and optimistic man who returned to his native land after spending many years running an internet caf? in north London.

?It?s the foreign fighters? he said.

According to estimates, there are as many as 200 foreign nationals fighting with al-Shabab in Somalia. One former insurgent, currently in hiding, recently told me that he was certain that Americans had traveled to Somalia to fight with the militants, and that he personally knew of ?six or seven? British fighters in the Mogadishu area who specialize in high explosives.

Matt Dunham / AP

British Prime Minister David Cameron, fifth left, leads the Somalia Conference at Lancaster House in London on Thursday.

Not only do these fighters threaten Somalia. The mayor pointed out the danger of those militants returning to their own countries with terrorist techniques learned in Somalia. He believes that the Western powers need to fix this failed state or risk attacks in their own territories. ?It?s a training field here so they may train here and go back?we are in the same boat,? he said.?

At the London conference, the leaders praised some signs of progress ? pirate attacks are down and al-Shabab has been mostly driven out to Mogadishu by the African Union peacekeeping mission. The leaders pledged new funding to support political and military measures to fight al-Shabab militants. They agreed to a seven-point plan vowing more aid, and help fighting terrorism and piracy.

The people of Somalia, such as the two men I met in Kenya, are hopeful that the plan brings success and peace.

Twitter's Android and iOS app get updates; out on Kindle Fire now, Nook soon

The official Twitter app has just received an update on iOS and Android, bringing new features to both platforms, plus an "optimized" Ice Cream Sandwich experience as seen above. The app is also currently available on Amazon's Appstore for the Kindle Fire now, and the company says it will pop up in the Barnes & Noble Nook Store February 23rd. For both Android and IOS the app has brought back / added a swipe gesture to reply to, reweet or favorite something without leaving your timeline, plus a notification on the Find Friends feature that it will be uploading their address book to Twitter's server -- a welcome change after the Path fiasco. The iOS-specific changes are the return of copy and paste, more options to share or save links in tweets, a mark all read for DMs and configurable font sizes. While it is optimized for ICS, on our CyanogenMod 9 tablet, the layout still looked reminiscent of the Gingerbread version instead of the iPad's richer layout. Hit the source links below to give it a look yourself and let us know if it's beating out your favorite mobile app yet.

Traffic is the lifeblood of every business and every website online. Marketing campaigns will fail without. Product launches go nowhere without it, and you'll never be able to maximize your income online if you don't know how to siphon your share of quality, targeted traffic.

If you have unlimited funds you could position yourself in front of your market through pay per click advertising campaigns with programs like Google Adwords. If budget isn't an issue, you could hire a team to set up targeted social media ads on high traffic websites like Facebook.

And while these will likely send at least some traffic to your website, the trouble is, you will never see a high enough return to justify your marketing costs.

Besides, as you probably have already figured out, PPC marketing isn't what it used to be. Years ago, you could place minimum spends and filter enough traffic to your site to test out campaigns and offers.

In fact, you used to be able to hustle income from basic squeeze and landing pages and since each click was so cheap, you had the unique opportunity to test, test and test ? until you hit a home run.

But those days are long gone and now PPC marketing is not only incredibly expensive but it's often ridiculously ineffective.

People have become "immune", to PPC advertising because with the social age of the Internet, they demand interaction and "social proof" that your website is worth taking the time to visit.

When it comes to being able to position your website in front of your target audience, one of the easiest ways to really penetrate your niche is to be "recommended" by authority figures.

Think about it through a real world example. You're far more likely to check out an offer or evaluate an opportunity if it were referred to you by someone you trust.

When it comes to generating traffic to your website, you can exploit social proof to your advantage.

How? By building permanent backlinks from authority sites and leaders in your market!

Backlinks are one of the most effective methods of siphoning an unlimited amount of traffic to your website. There are few other ways of getting the job done, especially if you're on a limited budget.

And because it's absolutely FREE, you'll instantly maximize your profits because you've just eliminated ALL marketing costs!

Imagine just how much more money you'd make if you were able to flood your website with thousands of visitors per day.

What do you think would happen to your profit margin if you had unlimited access to your target audience and could funnel hungry buyers onto your website 24 hours a day?

Traffic is the currency of the Internet so with a solid backlink campaign, it's like having UNLIMITED FUNDS to invest in your online business!

If you've never set up a backlink campaign before, rest assured that it's incredibly easy to do when you know the "key components" needed in order to build permanent one-way links to your website that will skyrocket your income, instantly.

One thing you should know is that backlinks come in many different formats, and in order to set your business up on long-term success and be able to continuously funnel unstoppable traffic to your website, you need to focus only on PREMIUM BACKLINK SOURCES.

And you're about to find out exactly how you can secure your share of quality backlinks, instantly!

"How to do SEO" is a no-holds barred blueprint to generating massive traffic to your website, FREE!

Find out how you can build an unstoppable traffic system quickly and easily that will funnel quality traffic and hungry buyers to your website within just a few short days!

You'll never have to pay for traffic again once you activate this mind blowing traffic system ? and better yet, you'll easily maximize your income unlike ever before with these shocking nitro charged traffic siphoning techniques that are guaranteed to work!

Ricky Alfonso Performs Sunday at Hartford Public Library - Courant ...

No matter what configuration he's playing in ? whether big, roomy ensembles or his own intimate, modern jazz combo ? you can rely on trumpeter Ricky Alfonso to create something fresh, thoughtful and expressive with his solo ventures that are deeply reflective yet universally affective.

The Bridgeport native, whose luminous trumpet artistry has brightened the Greater Hartford jazz scene for three decades, leads his fine, tight quartet in performances Sunday afternoon, Feb. 26, at the red-hot Baby Grand Jazz series at the Hartford Public Library and on Friday night, Feb. 24, at the Buttonwood Tree in Middletown.

Alfonso, who doubles on cornet and also sings, leads his working quartet featuring pianist Chris Casey, bassist Matt Dwonszyk and drummer Tido Holtkamp. They play Sunday at 3 p.m. at the downtown library, which has become one of the hottest, coziest jazz roosts in town, and Friday at 8 p.m. at the Buttonwood Tree, 605 Main St., Middletown.

Beginning with gigs at Hartford's legendary 880 Club in the 1980s and through his association with the late Bill Barron, the great saxophonist/composer/educator at Wesleyan University, Alfonso has played with a virtual "Who's Who" of top regional and national musicians, including Mario Pavone, Bill Lowe, Ed Blackwell, Thomas Chapin, Steve Davis and Nat Reeves.

Born into a musical family 61 years ago this month, he began on trumpet at 9, receiving his first trumpet from his father, a professional musician and educator who played accordion and piano. Music reigned supreme in the Alfonso household, which was often packed with his father's young accordion students.

Like his father, Alfonso became both a respected professional musician and a dedicated music teacher. Alfonso, who has a degree in music education from the University of Connecticut, is a full-time teacher specializing in early childhood music education in a public school setting and private trumpet instruction in his home studio.

"My father was a marvelous musician and knew all the standards. My two older brothers were musicians, but I was the only one who stayed with music. My big jazz music influence was an older brother, a tenor saxophonist, who'd come home with jazz records by Miles, Monk and others," Alfonso says by phone from his home in South Windsor.

Early on, when he was 9 or 10, Alfonso experienced a life-shaping epiphany when, on a small black-and-white TV screen at home, he saw Miles Davis play his moving solo rendition of "Bye Bye Blackbird."

"I remember that vividly like it was yesterday. I heard Miles' Harmon mute solo on that tune and thought, 'Oh, man this is where it's at.' "

Through his years at Bridgeport Central High School, Alfonso played in the jazz band, concert band and marching band, won awards, spent extra hours happily practicing in the band room and performed at the Quinnipiac Jazz Festival, which was then run by trumpeter Sonny Costanzo. He even got to meet trumpet great Clark Terry.

As a youngster, he played in rock and funk bands. And in the early seventies, he performed and recorded in the horn section of the backup band for the legendary rock-and-blues singer Joe Cocker, touring throughout the United States and Europe.

"Joe is a great guy. I haven't seen him in many years, We had a great time. It was all rock 'n roll," he recalls.

When he transitioned from rock back to jazz, his early love, Alfonso was greatly assisted by the noted trumpeter Bob Zottola, a veteran who played with Chick Corea, The Count Basie Orchestra and for many years in the Broadway pit band for "Les Mis?rables."

Alfonso also cites his connection in the mid-1980s with Barron as another influential turning point in his career. Besides playing gigs with Barron, he worked as an adjunct trumpet instructor in Barron's celebrated jazz program at Wesleyan in Middletown.

"I got to know Bill as a person, a regular, beautiful cat to be with and always very encouraging. His wise advice to students always was, 'Man, just play what you know.' "

On his excellent CD of a few years back, "Hold Back Tomorrow," Alfonso included a couple tunes by Barron. At the Buttonwood Tree on Friday night, he'll play a few Barron compositions in tribute to his friend and mentor. Admission: $10. Information: http://www.buttonwood.org and 860-347-4957.

?Alfonso presents a mix of original blues-based compositions, jazz standards and American Songbook material ?warm, accessible chamber jazz tailor-made for the intimate ambience of the library's scenic atrium.
