'Inside Job' director to helm HBO's WikiLeaks pic

Docu helmer Charles Ferguson is attached to direct HBO's upcoming film based on WikiLeaks mastermind Julian Assange.Ferguson, who earned the feature documentary Oscar this year for "Inside Job," will examine the life of Assange. The Oz publisher and journalist set off a firestorm late in 2010 when he orchestrated the release of thousands of sensitive U.S. government documents.Pic, which is still in development, will be exec produced by Joshua Maurer, David Stern and Alixandre Witlin. Audrey Marrs and Ferguson are also producing.Assange has been a hot topic in Hollywood. DreamWorks and Universal both have projects in the works based on him and his actions during the scandal."Inside Job," narrated by Matt Damon, uncovered how Wall Street went into a meltdown and nearly set off an economic apocalypse. That and "No End in Sight" are the only two films Ferguson has directed. The HBO pic will be his first non-docu project.Ferguson's repped by UTA.
